Oleta Adams to Star at PortFest 2003

On Saturday, June 7th, the soulful Oleta Adams will take to the main stage at PortFest 2003, the Port of Oakland’s annual free festival at the waterfront that draws some 25,000 people to Jack London Square. Adams has been known to rock the house as well as the souls of her audience. "When the music is so good that it makes you swoon; when the lyrics are so real that they make you cry; when the voice is so rich and so passionate that all you can do is wave your hands, close your eyes and shake your head, you know it’s Oleta." Those words from Tafrija Magazine are a true testament to an enormous talent that has toured with such heavyweights as Phil Collins, Michael Bolton, Tears for Fears, and Luther Vandross. Ms. Adams has had three Grammy nominations, and has seen her 1990 debut album Circle of One go Platinum. In addition to the talented Adams, PortFest offers two stages of entertainment featuring the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, Pop-rocker Natasha Miller, and Jazz/Blues performer Faye Carol. There will be plenty of fun for kids with face painters and balloon twisters walking the festival grounds as well as activities geared to delight the youngsters. The event will be held at the Howard Terminal in Jack London Square right next to the Alameda/Oakland Ferry landing. PortFest 2003--The World Comes to Oakland--is also a great opportunity to learn a little about the Port of Oakland’s three lines of business--Maritime (Oakland seaport), Aviation (Oakland International Airport), and Commercial Real Estate-- and how they contribute to our region. The City of Oakland and Community groups will also be on hand for this free day-long event. Come celebrate PortFest 2003, Saturday, June 7, at Jack London Square, beginning at 11:00 a.m., and enjoy great music, food, education, and fun!
